Are you doing too much to reach your goals?

If you’d rather read than listen, scroll down:)

The podcast episode talks about:

  • Why you want to zero in on your CORE VALUES.

  • 5 reasons why you may not be reaching your goals, or why you haven’t set any.

  • My own 3 CORE VALUES for 2022 as an example.

Making New Year’s Resolutions & January goal setting.

January is the season of goal setting, making New Year’s Resolutions, and setting goals. Many people set health related goals with good intentions, yet fail to reach them.

Why do we fail to reach our goals?

One of the reasons is that we do too much! We make try to change too many things, or we take on to many obligations to others, and leave little time to DO the changes we said we wanted in the first place!

Whatever your New Year’s Resolutions are, creating goals and steps are a big part of them. But are you missing the FIRST step?

Full disclosure: I do not make New Year’s Resolutions.

I do not usually see resolutions actually working with my clients.
There are times that they DO work, if you take a few steps before making those resolutions.

How to reach your New Year’s Resolutions.

One of the things you can do to reach your goals in 2022, is to make some space to look at what you really want.

Let’s look at an example.

Say you want to get fit. That is a big and broad goal.

How do you break that down?

There are many ways to break a goal down. Here, I am sharing two steps to get started.

One: stop doing so many things.

You need to create some time for thinking about the big broad goal of yours. We need some time to dig into the WHY of our intentions. It’s great to set goals and intentions. But if they are not rooted in an emotional reason, your chances of reaching them may not be as high.

The episode Creating Space to Create Goals is a perfect partner episode to help you.

Two: What is the meaning behind the goal?

In keeping with the goal of “getting fit”, ask yourself what does“fit” means to you? I have clients that define fitness in a variety of ways. They are all personal and unique to them.

Why is your goal personal and unique to you? The answer is found in what is behind the goal. What kind of emotions does this goal bring up in you?

If your WHY is that you want to win a race, lift your grandchild, or keep up with your daughter on a trip, what emotions do these actions bring up?

It’s the feeling that is important to you, more than the goal, I bet.

Here’s where finding your Core Values fits into goal setting.

The concept of CORE VALUES are the FOUNDATION of creating goals that are aligned, and that have a higher chance of being met.

In my Mindful Eating Experience, The Fullness Method, I use the concept of Core Values early on in working with me.

Ok, I use them with EVERYONE. Discovering your core values helps you make goals that fit are about your DESIRE for the life, and health, you want.
