Do you feel addicted to sugar?

You might want to take this thought out of your mind when you make this delicious Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp!

Video below:)

If you feel “addicted” to sugar, you may be denying yourself dessert.

You may feel like you can’t have dessert, because once you do, you won’t want to stop.

Is this sugar addiction?

And in menopause, we can feel so drawn to sugar, it feels like a horrible addiction. Is it?

Restricting foods makes them more enticing.

When we label foods good or bad, that creates so much conflict and DESIRE. Diet culture has contributed to the labelling of foods, like we label people. Good. Bad.

And just like people aren’t inherently ALL bad or ALL good, neither is food. If you are trying to let go of dieting, start to notice your food labelling patterns!

Now, this Gluten Free Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp.

It’s made with some sugar. I made it for my partner’s dad.
In my oven, in the summer, too. It was pretty hot in my kitchen!

Sweat is a natural detoxifier, by the way.

If you ARE making this in hot weather, and have a cast iron pan, throw it on the BBQ.
Don’t make this in the kitchen.
Unless you need a good sweat.

ABOUT THE CRISP.

The beauty of this recipe is FLEXIBILITY.

It has sugar, but you can switch up the sweetener.
It has coconut flour, but you can sub in your choice of flour, and use cornstarch instead of arrowroot powder, as it’s more affordable.

It has butter, but you can sub in your fav vegan fat.

You feel me?

We all orbit in different spaces. Here is a quick video recipe, before you go on to read about that sugar addiction.

So is sugar addiction a real thing?
It depends.

It depends on:

  • the wiring of your reward centres in your brain.

  • the deprivation you may have experienced in your life.

  • your neurotransmitter levels.

  • your emotional state.

Food and nutrition has become a confusing topic. It doesn’t have to be with the Non Diet approach. With this approach, incorporating mindful eating and intuitive eating practices, you can get rid of the food confusion.

All by learning to listen to your body.

Food and nutrition advice can also be expensive. If someone stops by this recipe and can’t afford the ingredients, how helpful is that?

Consider:

2kg of regular sugar averages about $2.50 CAD.
Organic cane sugar can go for 4.99 to 8.99 CAD.
There are may other options in between.

Let’s not even talk about the coconut flour.

Depending on your finances, these things may be out of reach. Which discourages many from stepping into the kitchen to cook. It also makes health look expensive and complicated.

It doesn’t always have to be.

Adding in whole foods, even when mixed with other things that may be labelled as “sub optimal” in the wellness world, is STILL nourishing your body. And honoring where life is at the moment.

That’s my idea of a full life.

We are all different. I think this is an amazing thing.

And that sugar addiction? Maybe it is. Or maybe you just need to look at your relationship to food.

From my kitchen to yours, with a strawberry crisp.
